What Joday is
Joday is a public directory for Gujarati diasporas. After you sign in and pin a city, other people on Joday can see your name, the city you pinned, cities you say you have lived, and any back story you write. There is no chat, no follow graph, and no private messaging.
Information we collect
Account. If you continue with Google, Google sends us your name and email address. We do not receive your Google password. We use that email as your account. Seed stories on @joday.example addresses cannot be taken over.
Current city. When you join, the site first asks the browser for GPS. If you refuse, we look up a coarse location from your IP address. We reverse-geocode that to city, state, and country, then discard the exact coordinates. We store the city record, not a live track.
Lived places. Cities you type into search and add yourself.
Stories. Text you submit as a back story, shown on your profile and on Expand.
Session. An http-only cookie named joday_session keeps you signed in. A short-lived cookie is used during Google sign-in to protect the login. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers on Joday.
How we use it
To create your account, show you in the directory, place you on the map at city scale, publish stories you chose to write, keep you signed in, and operate, secure, and debug the service. We do not sell your information. We do not use it to run ads.
How we share it
Profile fields listed above are public to other signed-in Joday users. We use Google only as the sign-in provider. Hosting and databases that run Joday (currently Google Cloud / Firebase in the United States) store the account and city records in order to provide the site. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect people from serious harm.
Joday’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use your Google name and email only to create and run your Joday account. We do not use Google data for ads, and we do not sell it.
Retention
We keep your account, city pins, and stories until you ask us to delete them, or until we shut Joday down. Session cookies expire after 30 days of inactivity or when you sign out.
Your choices (including California)
You can refuse GPS. You can write as little or as much story as you want. Because DataBeeper LLC is in California, you may request access to, or deletion of, personal information we hold about you. Email databeeper@gmail.com. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in the CCPA/CPRA. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics beyond what you publish on Joday.
Children
Joday is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13.
International visitors
If you use Joday from outside the United States, you understand that we process information in the United States, where the law may differ from the law where you live.
Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the date above and post the new policy at this URL.
